Brandon P. Bell as Executive Officer Oren Gault - Syfy Ascension Night One Review

Syfy Ascension Night One Review

Ever since the first announcements of Ascension I was more than just intrigued. Perhaps it was the obviously flawed premise of a 1960’s space ship launched to another planet that got me to ask. ‘How the hell do they think to get away with that’. When after the initial announcement several executives of Syfy put the future of their network on the success of this show I started to pay attention. Syfy channel has a reputation of cancelling their core programming in favor of wrestling, reality and ghost hunting shows that frankly made me wonder if the change from Sci-fi channel to just...

Katee Sackhoff and Tricia Helfer pose for 2015 Acting Outlaws Calendar

Since 2013 Actresses Katee Sackhoff and Tricia Helfer have made a charity calendar to raise funds for a good cause. Both actresses are of course famous from the Battlestar Galactica remake of 2003. On RedBubble as well as the website of their charity, Acting Outlaws, you can now buy the calendar for the sum of 36.07 euro’s. I think it is well worth it. Their poses aren’t too revealing and seem to harken back to classic pin-up photography. This year alone their charity has already raised 25.000 dollars to help with the after effects of the BP Gulf of Mexico disaster....

William Shatner joins Haven

William Shatner joins Haven

William Shatner joins Haven I used to put up the odd review of Haven every now and then. It mostly depended on whether an episode was any good. Quite frankly the last really good episode was the finale of season 3. Afterwards, too many mysteries were solved to my disappointment and too many secondary characters were killed off. Now during its fifth season the show has been hurting due to negative fan backlash. The ratings have also steadily dropped. That may change with the inclusion of Star Trek alumni William Shatner himself. Syfy moving forwards, or is it backwards…. According to SciFiStorm.org “William Shatner...

Helix Season 2 Teaser Trailer Logo

Helix Season 2 Teaser Trailer

Syfy has just released a teaser trailer for the upcoming second season of Helix, the high-concept show produced by BSG guru Ronald D. Moore. The first season proofed it had a lot of promise, but it could at times be burdened by the cumbersome backstory that had to be told of how Dr. Alan Farragut (played by Billy Campbell) deals with a viral outbreak at a remote arctic research station. The 13 episodes could also differ in quality especially near the end as the audience demanded resolution to some of the story elements while new elements were also introduced to keep the...

Tricia Helfer Ascension

Tricia Helfer joins the cast of Syfy’s Ascension

Last time I write about Tricia Helfer was back in December when I wrote a piece about her 2014 Acting Outlaws calendar with Katee Sackhoff. Though Tricia is mostly famous for Battlestar Galactica, her frequent guest appearances and voice over work she doesn’t have much planned for on the horizon. A few weeks a interview with Tricia suggested that was about to change and now Syfy channel (cross your fingers) has announced she will have a lead real in their upcoming Science Fiction event series Ascension. The last time I wrote anything remotely optimistic about Syfy Channel was last year when they announced they...

15 minutes of Helix!

Up until a few days ago that wasn’t information available to give is us an impression of what Ronald D. Moore’s new show Helix was all about. We got a few screens, some snippets of teasers that just announce the air date and nothing else. However, die-hard Battlestar Galactica fans were convinced that even a show they new little about would be a success because of the man at the helm. After seeing the first 15 minutes of Helix’s pilot I can assure that when it comes to starting of a show on good footing this is about as good as it...

Defiance gets renewed for second season by Syfy!

Defiance gets renewed for second season by Syfy!

After just 5 episodes into its first season Syfy has already given its news flagship show Defiance the benefit of the doubt. Syfy has renewed the show for another 13-episodes that will start airing in 2014. The announcement is surprising for several reasons. So far the quality has been uneven. A lot of viewers are confused about the background world. A situation that echoes what happened with Farscape 10 years back. Also the ratings have so far been steadily dropping over the course of 5 episodes. The last episode gaining 2.19 million viewers. Personally I only became enthusiastic about the show after seeing the...

Continuum S2Ep3 ‘Second Thoughts’ Review!

Continuum S2Ep3 ‘Second Thoughts’ Review!

Last weeks episode of Continuum was hardly the shows best. The plot felt a bit too forced as the writers tried to push the characters into a new direction. Alec quitting his job to work for Kellog and Liber8 turning on each other are examples. However, against all odds this weeks episode of Continuum is able to capitalize on this new situation by seriously putting every character out of their comfort zone. I must warn anyone before viewing this episode, there is some serious violence, gore and mind-fucking going on in ‘Second Thoughts’. The plot of ‘Second Thoughts’… In a...

Continuum Season 2 Premiere ‘Second Chances’ Review!

Second Chances is the first episode of Continuum second season. Continuum is a sci-fi TV-series produced by Showcase, but Syfy channel will also air the episodes starting on June 7th. Continuum stars Rachel Nichols as from the future CPS Protector Kiera Cameron who has teamed up with detective Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster), a cop from the present. Together they fight the terrorist group Liber8 as it seeks to prevent a future ruled by corporations. The plot outline of ‘Second Chances… Following the events of the season 1 finale, Kiera decides to work on the edge of the law, getting support and resources...

First Continuum Season 2 Trailer Online!

First Continuum Season 2 Trailer Online!

Well, the wait is almost over! Starting April 21st Continuum will be back for its second season on Showcase. Syfy viewers will have to wait until June though. For season 2 there is now an official teaser trailer featuring most of the principal cast. A central theme of the promo trailer seems to be how present actions can influence the far future. Season 1 sort of left this in the air with the young Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen) stating that there were only two possibilities. 1. The future is whatever you make of it, actions thus have direct consequences. 2....

Syfy Channel developing 7 new sci-fi series!

Syfy Channel developing 7 new sci-fi series!

These days the only thing the Syfy Channel is good for is a good bashing. After killing of Alphas, Eureka, Caprica, Farscape and Stargate Atlantis who can blame me. Now it appears that the people at Syfy believe the company should get back to it’s root. They have announced the production of 7 new series. It is not clear whether all seven would actually air on the Syfy Channel or that they are produced for other channels as UPC and several other cable channels seem involved. After reading the impressive list below I can’t help but feel overwhelmed. Isn’t it a bit too...

Continuum Season 2 starts April 21st!

Continuum Season 2 starts April 21st!

I can probably figure out what you’re thinking these days. With the return of Revolution and with other shows on air such as Elementary (Lucy Liu is just gorgeous), Person of Interest, The walking Dead, Supernatural and Nikita it is hard enough to keep up. Now you can add Continuum to that list as well, as it will be returning for its second season April 21st. Along with Game of Thrones (March 31st), Defiance (April 15th), The Borgias (April 14th) and Hannibal (April 4th). There are a few more but at least this partial list can show why it’s so hard to have fully working social...

Jaime Murray as Stahma Tarr - Defiance

Defiance preview pictures revealed!

By the looks of it IGN has managed to get a big scoop when it posted a large number of still shots of UCP and Syfy Channel’s upcoming TV-show Defiance. The show stars Jaime Murray, Grant Bowler, Julie Benz and Mia Kirshner. It is set in a future world devastated by a war between humans and Votans (who are an ensemble of races). Don’t forget that the show has a Massive Multiplayer Online shooter called….. ‘Defiance’. It has a story that ties in with the TV-series. That means that events happening in either the game or Tv-series will affect each other. At least, in theory....

Haven season 3 finale ‘Thanks for the Memories’ Review!

Haven season 3 finale ‘Thanks for the Memories’ Review!

This is the review of Haven season 3 finale ‘Thank for all the memories’ of Haven, it was aired yesterday back to back with the previous episode because of the terrible shooting in the US at the end of the last. Haven now has with Warehouse 13 pretty much a level playing field on the Syfy Channel after we learned that Alphas has been canceled after two seasons. A third show called ‘Continuum’ has recently started airing on Syfy but another production company is behind it (Showcase). With the scarcity of sci-fi shows on Syfy I am pleased to say that season 4 of Haven...

Defiance trailer online!

Defiance trailer online!

Defiance is a new sci-fi series from the Syfy Channel that will probably air earlier next. The series is kind of special as the Syfy channel is more famous for cancelling shows than starting ones, and has been for at least five years. Just kidding, Syfy Channel is trying to get back to it’s roots after a foray into the celebrity-ghost wrestling scene. So far they have gotten off to a difficult start, the prequel series to Battlestar Galactica has been in development hell for ages despite a very promising trailer that this website showed. As for Defiance, the sub-genre...

New SyFy channel series ‘Alphas’ airs july 11th.

New SyFy channel series ‘Alphas’ airs july 11th.

The much touted new Syfy channel series ‘Alphas’ will definitely air on July 11th. The series is a superhero/sci-fi themed story about five individuals (alphas) who discover they have special abilities. Each specializes in one ability and together they try to rid New York from evil. At first this seems like another attempt on behalf of the Syfy channel to produce a series that would appeal to a greater audience by treating the Science-Fiction elements lightly. We will have to see if their attempts to come up with a series that isn’t as excentric as Fringe nor as uselessly techie as Numbers will...
