Prisoner’s Dilemma is the 12th episode of PoI’s second season and can be considered as the episode that puts season 2 back on its track towards the finale.
The plot of Prisoner’s Dilemma….
Carter is asked to question the four suspects. Finch keeps assists by creating fake information for Reese. Elias offers to help Reese but Reese refuses as the FBI knows The Man in the Suit has an affiliation with Elias. Finch bribes a suspect to tell the FBI who the man is as the FBI suspects he knows. The suspect blames the other suspect but after a suspect (Who was relieved as he was in Iraq while the man in the suit was on the streets) is killed, Donnelly suspects that he was bribed and the real man is Reese. After a brawl involving John and an old enemy, Carter questions the last suspect in order to provoke him into attacking her, causing the FBI to believe that he is the man.
Later Reese visits Carter and thanks her, but Donnelly approaches them and realizes that Reese is indeed the Man in the Suit. He arrests Carter for conspiracy and Reese for murder. Finch attempts to meet with Fusco to assist him, but public phones begin to ring. Finch is hesitant at first but then picks up. He rushes back and finds out that the next victim is Donnelly. He calls Donnelly in order to warn him but is too late as a truck hits Donnelly’s car, containing Reese and Carter. A woman steps out and kills Donnelly and is revealed to be Kara Stanton, who sedates Reese.
Conclusion…..
The gutsy decisions by the creative staff of killing of agent Donnelly shows that they have their groove back, though I had hoped Donnelly would stuck around for a while longer.
The storyline of Reese and Kara Stanton had been abandoned for some episode now but I think the use of flashbacks and that sense of imminent doom as the episode hurdles towards it’s last scene is effective in making us care about this new storyline.
Fusco’s side plot is not hardly fleshed out but it does make for an effective comic relief, as did Finch’s attempt as disguising himself as a police officer. The appearance of Elias at the prison means that his storyline has also not been forgotten not his interest in Finch. At this time Person of Interest seems to be juggling with it’s storylines and I rather like that.
Score; 8.5 / 10.
