Lucy Lawless joins the cast of Agents of SHIELD

Slowly the news is starting to trickle in about the second season of Agents of SHIELD. The show is scheduled to premiere on September 23, 2014. I think most people interested can be split into two groups. The first group want to see more of the Marvel Universe because they are fans. While the second want to see if the show will be cancelled. Despite some good reviews during the latter episodes the ratings barely rose. According to some the ratings actually declined and stood at a little above 5.5 million. Which is less than half the 12 million for the pilot episode.

Now that season 2 is finally entering production IGN is reporting that Lucy Lawless has joined the cast. The role is as of this moment unspecified, but she has a history of playing characters that switch from being antagonists to protagonist. Agents of SHIELD of course ended on a major cliffhanger. Hydra may have been pushed back but SHIELD has essentially been destroyed. Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) was revealed to be a Hydra agent and is supposedly incarcerated.

Although Lucy Lawless is mostly famous from shows such as Xena Warrior Princess, Battlestar Galactica and her revealing appearance in Spartacus. She also has some credits for appearing in drama. Recently she guest starred in Top of the Lake alongside Elisabeth Moss. Lucy isn’t the only expansion to the cast. During season 1 Amy Acker (Person of Interest) also joined but for what appears to be a guest star position.

Marvel is also busy with producing other TV shows based on the Marvel Universe. I have already reported on Agent Carter. A show featuring Hayley Atwell as the title character. Unlike Agents of SHIELD this show will have a first season lasting just 13 episodes. It is set to start airing in January 2015. At the same time Netflix is also producing an exclusive show for their streaming service. Rumor has it, it will be very different from both AoS and Agent Carter.
