Now that the fourth episode of Almost Human is almost upon us I thought I’d write a preview article, something I rarely do these days. The upcoming episode of Almost Human seems to focus more on the secondary characters than previous weeks. Specifically the character Rudy Lom (played by McKenzie Crook) is heavily featured in the promo trailer below. Almost Human has an unusual start in that the characters weren’t introduced to each other. It wasn’t like they were ’rounding up the heroes’ that is such a popular story telling mechanism. Instead we saw John Kennex (Karl Urban) returning to the police force after a leave of absence. His character is already acquainted with Rudy, Detectives Stahl and Paul as well as Captain Maldonado. Something similar happened recently with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Frankly the latter show didn’t become interesting until each character had their own ‘centric’ episode. Instead both shows rely on one character to guide the viewers through the first episodes and act as the character the viewers can relate to. With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that character is Skye and in Almost Human it is Dorian (played by Michael Ealy). Now that Almost Human is set to broaden it’s universe so will the stakes rise as well. Only the pilot episode touched upon the topic of the arch antagonists ‘The Syndicate’ and their leader who probably is Kennex’s ex-girlfriend.
In a strange twist of fate there is another similarity between Almost Human and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. With Both shows there is active speculation by fans just how ‘alive’ the lead characters Dorian and agent Coulson respectively really are. Does Dorian have a soul? Is Coulson a Life Model Decoy? I guess the answers will keep us waiting otherwise there would be no show to watch!
