The Last Jedi trailer
Finally the full movie trailer for Star Wars The Last Jedi has been released. After nearly 2 years director Rian Johnson is set to continue the official Sequel Trilogy. The release date is pinned for December 15th and the movie stars Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac and the late Carrie Fisher as the principal cast. So what did I think of the trailer?
Well I think it revealed too much. I cannot be certain until I actually see The Last Jedi. But I do believe a SPOILER warning should have accompanied the trailer. Of course people are responsible for themselves, and I know of die-hard fans who won’t watch any trailer if they can help it. That said, the trailer seriously rocks. Over the last few months I felt I got a feeling of what this movie would be all about, but I was wrong. Rian Johnson does not appear to be afraid of putting the characters in harm’s way.
So what does the trailer contain?
Here is a rundown of things I noticed or that stood out.
1. A scared Luke Skywalker. Mark Hamill’s Luke looks visibly scared of Rey’s power. There is a line of dialogue where he says he has seen that kind of power before but was not scared enough of it. At first I thought he may have referred to Emperor Palpatine or even Darth Vader, but I guess it is a reference to Kylo Ren or Snoke. There is a brief scene of a burning temple, so I guess we will definitely see how the New Jedi order was destroyed.
2. A shot of Snoke. There are several voice overs of Snoke. He talks about Kylo Ren and his powers and later on about fulfilling destiny. The latter looked to be a reference to Rey, but it could also be Kylo Ren.
3. Kylo Ren attacking a New Republic cruiser carrying his mother, it is left unclear if he destroys her.
4. Poe Dameron holding a speech to rally the resistance.
5. Finn fighting Captain Phasma. After The Force Awakens it became unclear just what kind of role John Boyega and Gwendoline Christie would have. They are back and look to settle their beef.
6. Snoke torturing Rey? We see Rey suspended and we hear Snoke’s voice over. After what Kylo Ren did to awaken her powers it may not be Snoke’s best play.
7. A lot more shots of Kylo Ren. This movie clearly focuses on Rey and Kylo Ren as they learn new limits to their powers.
