Into Darkness for 14.99
Well, it’s the time of the season for digital downloads and Blu-Ray releases. After Iron Man 3 and Star Trek Into Darkness were released during the early summer period we can now catch them on the rebound. Iron Man 3 has already been released for Blu-Ray but Star Trek Into Darkness will for now only released as a digital download on iTunes for 14.99.
It at least gave me the possibility to re-watch this rather controversial release. Personally I was a bit disappointed with the Star Trek sequel. The four-year lapse between movies was too darn long and though the movie tried to be sort of the Empire Strikes Back of the franchise the acting and pacing left much to be desired. Having watched the movie a second time mu opinion has changed slightly. I like it better, during the second viewing I was able to enjoy the plot details better, understood the jokes better and have started to appreciate the acting of Simon Pegg and Benedict Cumberbatch in particular. The movie is still mired by a rather flawed plot, the wooden acting of Chris Pine and the lack of screen-time given to the secondary characters.
And though the visuals are stunning I was a bit disappointed with the representation of space, instead of feeling huge and exciting it feels more claustrophobic and overbearing. The representation of the Klingon home world and of Jupiter were particularly disappointing.
Overall the second viewing puts this movie as a close second to the 2009 movie. Here is hoping Star Trek 3 won’t be development hell so long. Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan should replace Chris Pine as captain of the Enterprise. The Blu-ray release of Star Trek Into Darkness will be released on September 10th. For 14.99 this release is overpriced by at least 5 dollars.
PS; sorry for the month long absence, but hey… I am back!
