I have never been a huge comic book fan, especially not superhero comics. The medium was always too much of a go-between of novel and motion action. If, on the other hand, a movie is made based on a superhero comic I will give it a try depending on the reviews and whether or not it maintains at least a semblance of plausibility (Batman, Kick-ass and The Walking Dead). Iron Man is one of those franchises and despite a disappointing second installment I am very much looking forward to Iron Man 3 (especially after The Avengers). Iron Man 3 stars Robert Downey Jr. (Sherlock Holmes) as Tony Stark, Gwyneth Paltrow (Shakespeare In Love) as Pepper Potts, Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian and Ben Kingsley as the chief antagonist ‘The mandarin’. Courtesy of www.empireonline.com we can enjoy 5 posters of all the main cast as their Iron Man characters.
So far Iron Man 3 promises to be the ‘Wrath of Khan’ of the franchise and I have few specific whishes for the third movie. The one that I do have is about Pepper Potts. I hope Gwyneth Paltrow’s characters will start to transform into her comic book character ‘Rescue’. In the first two movies Gwyneth Paltrow made for a very effective character for the audience to relate to, it certainly helped with the suspense of disbelief that is so essential for the genre. However, some might slowly argue that she is sidelined too often from the action. In playing the alter ego of Pepper Potts Gwyneth Paltrow may be able to show that Tony Stark doesn’t always know it better and that there are alternatives to always fighting villains head-on.
*** UPDATE*** Empire magazine has uploaded two Iron Man 3 covers for your perusal.
Iron Man 3 is scheduled for release on April 25 but won’t be released in the US until May 3rd. Shane Black is directing. His previous credits include writing the first two Lethal Weapon scripts. The budget is set at a whopping 200 million.
