Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon in Inferno Teaser

Inferno Teaser proves Robert Langdon still got it

Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon in Inferno Teaser

Inferno Teaser

Columbia Pictures has released the official Inferno Teaser. Fans of Dan Brown’s Inferno have been speculating when they might get a first glimpse of the movie adaptation. No teaser was attached with Captain America Civil War. On Sunday a short 15 seconds teaser was announced to herald the release of the full teaser today. Inferno the novel was released back in 2013 (my review is here) and after its success plans to make a film adaptation moved quickly into high-gear. The movie is yet again directed by Ron Howard, father of Bryce Dallas Howard. Tom Hanks yet again plays protagonist Robert Langdon. This third adaptation of a Dan Brown novel marks the only sequels Tom Hanks has starred in. Astute fans will know that the third novel in the series, The Lost Symbol was skipped. Though I personally liked it, almost as much as Inferno, fans were less positive. In Inferno Robert Langdon for once does not engage the Catholic Church but instead faces of one man, Bertrand Zobrist, and his twisted plan to save the world from itself.

Below is the official Inferno synopsis…

Robert Langdon awakens in a hospital room in Florence, Italy, with no memory as to what has transpired over the last few days. He suddenly finds himself, again, the target of a major manhunt. But with the help of Dr. Sienna Brooks, and his knowledge of symbology, Langdon will try to regain his freedom, and lost memories, all whilst solving the most intricate riddle he’s ever faced.

The trailer gives us our first glimpse of the principal characters besides Robert Langdon. Felicity Jones, who will star in Rogue One this fall, plays Dr. Sienna Brooks. Sienna plays a double role in the novel. She may help Robert but also agrees with the principals espoused by villain Bertrand Zobrist. Zobrist is played by Ben Foster. Irrfan Khan will play “The Provost”, who runs an agency with for hire mercenaries used by Zobrist. The principal cast is completed by Sidse Babett Knudsen as Elizabeth Sinskey, head of the World Health Organization who tries to stop Zobrist’s plan, though from Langdon’s perspective seems hell-bent on killing him instead. Inferno is scheduled for release on October 14.
