First trailer for Star Trek Beyond blasts unto the internet!

The first trailer for Star Trek Beyond was released unto the internet, and it’s nothing short of amazing!

Paramount decided to release the trailer early even though it was supposed to show as a teaser in front of the Force Awakens. However, after some screen caps were leaked over the weekend and finally a low-resolution trailer auf Deutsch this morning the decision was made to release the trailer properly. I must say, it is amazing. The creative seems to have learned from the mistakes of Star Trek Into Darkness. The easy going humor and plentiful special effects stand in contract to the second movie which arguably took itself far too seriously.

Chris Pine in First trailer for Star Trek Beyond

The movie is directed by Justin Lin to a script written by Simon Pegg and Roberto Orci. Pegg of course also a small role in The Force Awakens, the movie of J.J. Abrams who also directed the first two Star Trek movies. Star Trek Beyond stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Sofia Boutella and Idris Elba.

From the trailer we can see that most of the movie is actually set on a planet. It appears it is a penal colony of some sorts where the captives are housed of ships assaulted in orbit. For Star Trek this marks a significant deviation from the previous formula of ship-bourne action. Yet is may just be the new direction the series needs to stay relevant in a world soon to be dominated by Star Wars and Independence Day Resurgence. Star Trek Beyond is slated for a July 2016 release. I have certainly marked my calendar.

Independence Day Resurgence

Today a trailer for the second Independence Day was also released. 20th Century Fox released the trailer of the movie featuring Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman early. While I am certainly looking forward tot he movie the original was not much more than a very good b-movie. With all the new faces next to Goldblum and Pullman I wonder of the movie can attract an audience.

The official synopsis is as follows

We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
