Rogue One: Just a Rumor
Just when you though the Star Wars craze was over, for now, it starts again. About a week ago I wrote a small preview of Rogue One, the standalone Star Wars movie starring Felicity Jones. Director Gareth Edwards already gave his opinion of what the movie is all about. “It’s the reality of war. Good guys are bad. Bad guys are good. It’s complicated, layered; a very rich scenario in which to set a movie.” Most of that was already hinted at when Disney announced the movie would be set just before A New Hope.
Mads Mikkelsen
Today, more details were released on one of the principal characters, Galen played by Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal). It appears Gareth Andrews is not afraid to have this character remind us of our own past. “Mads Mikkelsen (Galen) is kind of the key to the film in a way. He is a scientist that took over the Geonosian Death Star project. He solved several of the flaws the Empire could not and is sort of a revered person in the Empire for his contributions. However, Mikkelsen’s character is a Robert Oppenheimer-type character. Oppenheimer helped design the atomic bomb only to say, “Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.” The guilt “Galen” feels for his contributions to the Empire become too much and he defects, attempting to make things right. In order to do this, he enlists the help of his only daughter….”
Rogue One teaser
I mentioned in my line-up of most anticipated movies of 2016 that I was slowly getting excited about Rogue One. Now I am really excited. Gareth Andrews will have to deal with the fact this movie is a underdog compared to either episode 7 and 8, but that could increase the pay-off should he deliver. If you want to know more about Rogue One: A Star Wars story you will have to wait until the release of Captain America: Civil War in May. Disney will reportedly attach a teaser trailer to that movie. Today, there were briefly rumors The Force Awakens would get the teaser just to lure every fan back to the cinema. I suppose the rumor gained traction because many suspect Disney could indeed be that cynical. This was More Rogue One rumors hit the internet! There will be more Rogue One posts when news hits the net.
