10 Cloverfield Lane
Cloverfield was the sleeper hit of 2008. I remember the release of the trailer well. At first I thought I was watching a some drama movie involving 30-somethings at a frat party. Yet, it did have that found-footage feel which left be baffled. Until Godzilla type monster roared in the background. Cloverfield wasn’t a movie I considered should need a sequel, but after years of speculation a sequel has been announced entitled 10 Cloverfield Lane. The sequel is also produced by J.J. Abrams but this time the director is Dan Trachtenberg, a director with a number of small projects under his belt. What is great is that there is a also a trailer. What is better is that the trailer is just as good as that of the original. The sequel focuses on a group of survivors living in a bunker of some sort. The glances they give each other makes it clear not everyone is there by choice.
Trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane
Again, just like Cloverfield the trailer manages to wrong-foot the viewer in a style you don’t see much anymore. One improvement is the lack of found-footage shaky cam directional style. That was a fad that almost killed the Star Trek reboot but did kill the third Jason Bourne movie, The Bourne Ultimatum. 10 Cloverfield Lane stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Deathproof and Live Free or Die Hard), John Goodman (Roseanne and The Monuments Men). The film is set to be released on March 11, 2016.
You can expect a review of the movie as soon as it hits theaters. Below you can also see the rather unusual press release that came with the trailer.
