Sometime later this year we will see Juan Diego Solana’s first full feature movie Upside Down starring Kirsten Dunst and Jim Sturgess. The budget for the movie is around 50 million and it looks like it could take a shot at underdog greatness.
As for the premise…
Adam (Sturgess) is a seemingly ordinary guy in a very extraordinary universe. He lives humbly trying to make ends meet, but his romantic spirit holds on to the memory of a girl he met once upon a time from another world, an inverted affluent world with its own gravity, directly above but beyond reach… a girl named Eve (Dunst). Their childhood flirtation becomes an impossible love. But when he catches a glimpse of grown up Eve on television, nothing will get in the way of getting her back… not even the laws of science.
The premise sounds great though I sense a lack of sci-fi element as the setting seems to merely support the plot.
Here is the trailer.
The trailer is in my mind somewhat spoilerish, often trailers of this type seem to be better than the movie. The visuals certainly look the part and they remind me of The Fountain, Sunshine and Gattaca.
