Mission Impossible Rogue Nation trailer

Mission Impossible Rogue Nation title card.

Today the first live-action trailer for Mission Impossible 5 was released. The movies does away with the numerical counting just like Ghost Protocol. Instead the title will be Mission Impossible Rogue Nation. The movie will star Tom Cruise, but also Sean Harris (Prometheus) and Rebecca Ferguson (Hercules). Besides the new cast we will also see Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames return. Just like Ghost Protocol the movie is directed by Christopher McQuarrie. Mission Impossible Rogue Nation is scheduled for release July 31st. To sweeten the announcement several pictures were released as well as the official poster. The photos of Tom Cruise running on a wing certainly seems to have shaken Social Media. His reputation of conducting stunts himself is well earned. However, after Harrison Ford’s recent mishap will he be able to continue to do so? Below you can see a set of pictures released today by Paramount. I will briefly discuss them before showing the trailer.

The first picture below shows the 5 year old Tom Cruise running along the wing of an Airbus A400. Presumably he has just escaped custody, after all he is in cuffs in another picture.

The second picture harkens back to Ghost Protocol and the Burj Khalifa tower that Ethan Hunt had to scale from the outside. The scene was the major highlight of the movie. It was actually filmed by Tom Cruise without the use of a stunt double. That scene is hard to outdo, but perhaps hanging from the fuselage of an aircraft may just be the way to succeed.

The third picture show Ethan being led away in handcuffs. It has a certain Splinter Cell vibe to it.

The last picture is also the first shot of Rebecca Ferguson in action. It is a shame Paula Patton did not return. It prevents consistency when it comes to the female leads. After Maggie Q in Mission Impossible 3 and Thandie Newton in Mission Impossible 2 the series is beginning to emulate James Bond. Would Jennifer Lawrence sign up for Mission Impossible 6? I can already see the photo shopped poster with her holding a bow and arrow.
