Kyle MacLachlan joins the cast of Agents of SHIELD
It may not be 100% official yet, but Twin Peaks star Kyle MacLachlan has signed on to join the cast of Agents of SHIELD. The second season of Agents of SHIELD has been filming since July. We already knew that Lucy Lawless has joined for an unknown part and now the creative staff have furthered strengthened the cast by adding Kyle MacLachlan. Rumor has it is Kyle will be playing the part of Skye’s father. Season 1 tried its best to create a aura of mystery surrounding Skye (Chloe Bennett). We know she was orphaned and that she has been classified as an object of unknown origin (AKA a 0-8-4). During the season finale we Centipede’s Raina speaking with a shadowy figure (who’ll now apparently be played by MacLachlan). Her message, while holding a photo of Skye: “I found your daughter.”
Agents of SHIELD had a difficult first season, some of the early episode were just plain silly. The California décor also seemed unsuitable. However, upon watching the early episode for a second time you quickly see the writing staff trying their level best to create a intriguing mythology for the show to build on. The season from then on only gets better culminating with the Captain America The Winter Soldier tie-in that revealed SHIELD has been infiltrated by HYDRA.
Kyle MacLachlan is of course a veteran of many TV shows such as Twin Peaks, Desperate Housewives and Sex and the City. If I didn’t know any better his casting was an attempt to win over more of the female audience. Kyle also starred in many movies such as Dune and Blue Velvet, but they were back in the early 80’s. Since then his roles have been mainly in TV shows. Agents of SHIELD is scheduled to return for its second season September 23st. Until then you can expect more news to slowly drip in.
