On April 12th, in just over two months time, Game Of Thrones will return for its fifth season. The show, along with the novels written by George R.R. Martin, is slowly drawing to its conclusion. Though we still have two more novels to go and at least three more seasons until its finished. I have been looking forward to season 5 with more trepidation than I did with previous seasons. The violence and nudity have for me become less important than the fate of the beloved and sometimes hated characters. Here on SciFiEmpire I pretty much write about anything, it doesn’t have to be science fiction per se. As Covert Affairs has been cancelled after 5 seasons (Piper Perabo withdrawal symptoms are still hurting), Haven having a break and Sleepy Hollow not being very good this week I thought I would write a preview for Game Of Thrones Season 5.
Game Of Thrones really managed to switch into higher gears with season 4. With both Oberyn Martell and Tywin Lannister dead both their houses will be drawn closer to conflict. If that isn’t bad enough, House Lannister has become far too dependent on House Tyrrell. The cast has also been further expanded with Alexander Siddig (Deep Space 9) and Jonathan Pryce (Brazil and Pirates of the Caribbean). Despite the additions to the cast season 5 seems to focus on the biggest bane of the show so far. The storyline of Daenerys Targaryen always felt too much of a side show. Despite references to her increasing power she never seemed to be playing the Game of Thrones like the rest. Now that Tyrion has fled Kings’ Landing along with Varys there is for the first time a real sense she can become Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. If that wasn’t enough the show will finally take is to Dorn, the birthplace of House Martell.
Game Of Thrones Season 5 trailer…
From the trailer it becomes clear the show doesn’t forget to pull punches. I do hope we will find out what is happening I the Riverlands as well. The most talked about event for the upcoming season is no doubt the nude stroll by Lena Heady as part of the penance walk of Queen Cersei. Strangely enough I am not looking forward to it myself, but more to the things that happened before and after. As the show is quickly going through the material supplied by the last book even we can’t be certain what the consequences are of events this season. This was Game Of Thrones Season 5 Preview. stay tuned to SciFiEmpire.net for more on Game Of Thrones.
