Revolution Cancelled

NBC Cancels Revolution after two seasons

During yesterdays review of the latest episode of Revolution I actively speculated that the show would be cancelled. Well, its has been. NBC is pulling the show of the air after just two seasons. In just a week’s time another Bad Robot Productions show is being cancelled. Some bloggers have started to catch on to the fact that many of J.J Abrams produced shows go prematurely to the dodo. Just like Alcatraz and Almost Human Revolution felt underdeveloped from the start. The rushed production irritated viewers as writers made arbitrary choices with their characters. Revolution and indeed the cancellation of Almost Human seems...

As some regular visitors to this site may have noticed I have started to make some alterations. I am still in the process of altering the desktop theme and I have now added a new mobile theme. I consider both to be work in progress so please do give feedback. Of course the main changes are about the social media connections. I already had a Facebook page (here) and a Google+ page (here) but now a Twitter account (here) has also been added. From now on every new post will be automatically uploaded to the three social media accounts where you can get...

Revolution Cancelled

Revolution S2Ep20 Tomorrowland Review

It has been a while since I last posted a review of Revolution. The show has seen a remarkable improvement in quality during its second season. However, a 22 episode season is also far too long. The second half of season 2 saw the storyline slowing down and becoming repetitive. Only now that we are moving towards the season finale is it moving forward again. Season 2 also suffered from the lack of intriguing villain. Somehow, despite the mean cruelty of the Patriots they lack… well, epicness! There is nothing like seeing David Lyons as General Monroe ordering his helicopters airborne to...

Person of Interest A house Divided - Leslie Odom as Peter Collier Leader of Vigilance

Person Of Interest S3Ep22 A House Divided Review

A Sky Of Flame’s This is one strange episode of Person of Interest. I almost started hating it in the beginning. That was until I saw where it was slowly going with the plot. Both the dénouement between Hersh and Shaw and between Vigilance and Control are well worth the effort of carefully setting up the plot and the pace. It reminds of everything The Blacklist was not this week. PoI sometimes introduces slapstick humor or glances over just how hard it is to do surveillance through hacking. However, this season and this episode in particular spared us more than usual and...

Agents of SHIELD season 2 sneak peek trailer

Agents of SHIELD S1Ep21 Ragtag Review

Next week we will see the last episode of season 1 of Agents of SHIELD. Many fans, me included, are crossing their fingers and hoping the show will not be cancelled. I am hopeful, the ratings have stabilized and have even seen a slight rise since the start of the Hydra Uprising storyline. The show seems to have found solid footing with its characters as well, something that was lacking during the first ten episodes. With all the buzz surrounding Captain America 2 and the upcoming Avengers 2: Age of Ultron movie it seems unlikely that Joss Whedon will allow this to end after...

Continuum S3Ep8 So Do Our Minutes Hasten Review

Continuum S3Ep7 Waning Minute Review

So far I haven’t been much of a fans of the third season of Continuum. This season is a lot better than season 2 but sadly it makes unique mistakes of its own. I dare say I feel far less invested in the characters than I did before. Both Kiera and Alec (both versions) have become somewhat unlikable and Carlos is sadly too often absent. For all I know this may be by design, a cop from the future wearing a skin-tight body suit with which she can overcome super villains is only going to last for one season as a premise....

Tricia Helfer Ascension

Tricia Helfer joins the cast of Syfy’s Ascension

Last time I write about Tricia Helfer was back in December when I wrote a piece about her 2014 Acting Outlaws calendar with Katee Sackhoff. Though Tricia is mostly famous for Battlestar Galactica, her frequent guest appearances and voice over work she doesn’t have much planned for on the horizon. A few weeks a interview with Tricia suggested that was about to change and now Syfy channel (cross your fingers) has announced she will have a lead real in their upcoming Science Fiction event series Ascension. The last time I wrote anything remotely optimistic about Syfy Channel was last year when they announced they...

Enterprise season 4 Blu ray review - Jolene Blalock in skirt uniform as T'Pol

Enterprise Season 4 Blu-Ray Review

As the series finale of Star Trek The Next Generation tells us ‘All good things come to an end’. And so has the last Star Trek series, after only 4 seasons it was cancelled in 2005. The show had a fantastic last 2 season but viewer fatigue and a lack of innovation meant it got cut short just when things started to get interesting. Star Trek had been steadily dropping in ratings since DS9 and Voyager which makes the course that was set with Enterprise all the more ludicrous. Nonetheless, I have enjoyed rewatching the series on Blu-ray, the 1080p visual do add to...

Almost Human - Karl Urban and Michael Ealy - www.scifiempire.net

Almost Human cancelled by Fox

In news that has taken me a little bit by surprise I am sad to inform readers of this blog that Almost Human has been cancelled after just one season. I am surprised the news came so suddenly because despite lower than expected ratings they did not seem desperate. I really liked this show, Karl Urban and Michael Ealy had very good chemistry together as John Kennex and Dorian. The special effects were also top notch and the show wasn’t afraid to tackle difficult topics such as sex-trafficking and pointless violence. Nonetheless the first half dozen episodes felt rushed, there were no overall story arc to connect...

Agents of SHIELD season 2 sneak peek trailer

Agents of SHIELD S1Ep20 Nothing Personal Review

It is a strange sensation to actually look forward to a new episode of Agents of SHIELD. During the first ten episodes of this season that rarely happened. The show has improved considerably and I am actually sad that after this weeks episode there are only two until the season is concluded. This week sees the return of Cobie Smulders as former agent Maria Hill. You may remember from the movie Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier that she actively voted for SHIELD to be disbanded after the HYDRA reveal. She now works for Stark Industries but is pressured by the government into revealing what...

Star Wars Tarkin by James Luceno

Disney announces new ‘Canon’ Star Wars literature

This morning the Walt Disney Company announced that the Star Wars literature and comic-books know as the Expanded Universe is not canon. Fans have been dreading the announcement ever since the first rumors started about Episode 7 some 10 years ago. Now it would seem that all those novels and comics are ready for the trashcan as Disney announces it will release 4 new ‘Canon’ novels as a tie-in for next years new Star Wars movie. I myself won’t mourn the Expanded Universe much, ever since the Yuuzhan Vong invasion it has been little more than junk. The amount of derivative work was just...

Jurassic World set picture - Bryce Dallas Howard

Jurassic World first set pictures from next years summer blockbuster

Finally we have the first set pictures of Jurassic World, the fourth dinosaur movie intended to reboot the series. Jurassic World is scheduled for release in June 2015 and will be directed by Colin Trevorrow. If you are going to ask whether you should know him the answer is no because he has only made 3 low-budget movies so far. We can only hope that it won’t affect the quality. Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and Vincent D’Onofrio are among those confirmed to have an acting role in the movie. Today, fresh from EW we got the first on-set pictures. Jurassic World has...

Agents of SHIELD season 2 sneak peek trailer

Agents of SHIELD S1Ep19 The Only Light in the Darkness Review

Agents of SHIELD has finally managed to get itself into higher gear with the Captain America story tie-in. Ever since episode 17 ‘Turn, turn, turn’ fans have been casually positive about what they perceive as a reboot. Before the tie-in I had an opportunity to rewatch all the episodes and I must say that I found some of my own criticism of the show unfounded. There are many subtle points I missed the first time watching and the writing staff deserve more credit. That said, the show is better than ever now that SHIELD has its back to the wall after Garret and Ward (Brett Dalton) were...

The Blacklist Season 1 Finale - Berlin (No. 8) Conclusion Review

The Blacklist S1Ep19 The Pavlovich Brothers (No. 119–122) Review

Now for something completely different. Ever since late September last year we have wowed by James Spader’s diabolical performance of master criminal Raymond Reddington on The Blacklist. The show appears in many ways rather conventional. FBI Special Agent Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) is tasked to extract information from Raymond Reddington after he has turned himself in. Instead he gives her leads on the most dangerous criminals he has worked with ever since fall to the dark-side some 20 years back. Raymond Reddington sold classified information and is being hunted ever since. The series get interesting because of its uncompromising attitude towards killing off those that the...

Farscape principal cast

Farscape movie in early stages of production!

In a surprising twist it was announced by Farscape creator Rockne O’Bannon at WonderCon that a Farscape movie is in the works. It appears however that the movie is still in the early stages of development. Rockne O’Bannon is of course also known for creating the TV-show Defiance which will have its second season air this summer. The original Farscape series ran from 1999 to 2003 for 4 seasons. Certainly the first season was noted for its poor special effects that reminded me a lot of early 90’s show such as The X-Files. Nonetheless the off-beat humor and the chemistry between Claudia Black and Ben Bowder...

Hannibal Season 2 Episode 8 Su-zakana - Will and Hannibal with a gun

Hannibal Season 2 Episode 8 Su-zakana Review

Hannibal is a show that likes to play with its audience. Ever since the first scene of season 2 the audience has had to deal with the fact that they know how it will all end. Instead of slowly tightening the noose around Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) we are instead shown how he manipulates the situation to frame others. In the last two episodes that acted as mid-season cliffhangers Dr. Chilton was eventually charged with being the Chesapeake Ripper because of the sound of his voice alone. To top it off , the only person who could recognize the voice...
