Anna Torv to star in Mindhunter with David Fincher and Charlize Theron

Anna Torv to star in Netflix series Mindhunter produced by David Fincher

Mindhunter Ever since the end of Fringe in 2013 it has been quiet for Australian actress Anna Torv. She has starred in a few Australian productions but that’s it. A canceled TV show can have consequences but with her gravitas I hoped she would quickly star in another role. Now after almost 3 years she may get her break. Anna Torv is set to star in Mindhunter, a series produced by David Fincher and Charlize Theron for Netflix. Torv will play a psychologist, possibly called Wendy, who joins a team of crack psychologist at the FBI that track down serial...

Keanu Reeves and Roland Emmerich produce New Angeles Stargate director Roland Emmerich and The Matrix star Keanu Reeves are working together on a new sci-fi TV series. According to Deadline producer David Ellender has set up a production company for the show which is tentatively called ‘New Angeles’. The basic premise sounds somewhat familiar, especially considering Keanu Reeves is involved. ‘Set in the future, the series centers on a young man who escapes the mundane reality of his life by entering an exciting virtual reality world called New Angeles. Once down the rabbit hole, he adopts a new identity, becoming the man...

Fringe series finale ‘Liberty’ & ‘An Enemy of Fate’ Review!

Fringe series finale ‘Liberty’ & ‘An Enemy of Fate’ Review!

Yesterday evening our favorite sci-fi show Fringe finally ended with an excellent pair of episodes, a journey that started in 2008 at what I think is still J.J Abrams high water mark. Fringe tried to brings elements from other shows such as The X-files and The Twilight Zone together in a more drama pact show. This was both the show’s greatest asset and liability as it offered both the familiar and the predictable. Fans were initially skeptical of Frine’s two lead characters played by Anna Torv and Joshua Jackson as they did seem a bit Barbie and Ken like. How quickly they grew on me,...

Fringe Five-Twenty-Ten Review!

Fringe Five-Twenty-Ten Review!

Five-Twenty-Ten acts as a mid-season finale for Fringe’s fifth season. It quite effectively wraps up some left-over issues from season 4 such as what Nina Sharp and William Bell have been up to. This episode picks up the pace considerably and the suspense is definitely a lot greater than the usual procedural episodes of Fringe. So far I am liking the format of season 5, it compares starkly with season 4 which seemed sort of lost in action between season 3 and 5. As for the plot of Five-Twenty-Two… Peter (Joshua Jackson), recently having injected one of the Observers’ devices in...

Fringe ‘An Origin Story’ Review

Fringe ‘An Origin Story’ Review

Fringe ‘An Origin Story’ deals with the direct aftermath of Etta’s death in the previous episode. In many ways it is a story of grief and revenge that has made Fringe suddenly more ‘real’ and less comic like. Previously our Fringe team tried to deal with every enemy through a plan that involved gadgets and  bravado, now the team uses sheer anger and violence to get back at the Observers. The story of ‘An Origin Story’… Peter (Joshua Jackson) and Olivia (Anna Torv) mourn the loss of their daughter Etta. Olivia in particular is shaken up and nearly unresponsive. They prepare to leave Etta’s...

Fringe The Bullet that Saved the World Review!

Fringe The Bullet that Saved the World Review!

Fringe is back after a two week break with its fourth episode of the season entitled ‘The bullet that Saved the World’. The title is a reference to the actual bullet that Etta wears in a necklace which was used by Walter to shoot Olivia. This episode of Fringe tries to up the ante by killing of Etta (Georgina Haig) at the end, a decisions which I didn’t really agree with because I just started to get to know her. As for the plot of ‘The Bullet that saved the World’… While Peter (Joshua Jackson) is out collecting gas, he stops in a pawn...

Fringe The Recordist Review!

Fringe The Recordist Review!

This week’s episode of Fringe takes a little step back from the action and uses it’s time to deepen out the background story of the world that has been taken over by the Observers. My first impressions were perhaps one of apprehension in that the story doesn’t move forward as much, but now that I have had time to reflect on the episode I have changed my mind. Just like in last weeks episode it is the small touches that really make an impression. As for the story of ‘The Recordist’… Walter (John Noble) and Astrid (Jasika Nicole) use the makeshift laser to...

Fringe Season 5 Trailer + Pictures revealed!

Fringe Season 5 Trailer + Pictures revealed!

Well, in a few days time Fringe will be back for its fifth and final season. A season in which the Fringe team will have to topple the rule of the Observers, but Walter has a plan! See his plan in this rather spectacular and lengthy trailer of things to come… Also we got seven posters of our favorite cast members from season 5… Fringe season 5 will start airing this Friday the 28th. As a bonus I have managed to find some good Fringe wallpapers, I have already used some of these for quite a few months myself.

Fringe Season 5 ‘Transilience Thought Unifier Model – 11’ Preview!

Fringe Season 5 ‘Transilience Thought Unifier Model – 11’ Preview!

As you already know from previous posts next friday the last season of Fringe will start airing. While we are certain that the main cast such as Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson and John Noble will be back it also seems clear from the trailer that Olivia and Peter’s daughter Henrietta (Etta) will get a prominent role. Henrietta is played by Georgina Haig, a part of her role will be to uncover what happened between Olivia and Peter. The internet is abuzz with rumors that they have split up, so that is at least one more issue that needs to be...

New Fringe Season 5 Pictures!

New Fringe Season 5 Pictures!

I know I haven’t updated SciFiEmpire.net for in like two weeks, but it has been hell with my academic career that I pursue besides my love for everything science-fiction. It would seem that I have my schedule reasonable sorted out so you can expect more regular updates from now on. Though I do hope someone ambitious will join as a contributor to SciFiEmpire.net. Prospective candidates so far have ranged from bots telling me how cheap shoes are in China to continental characters from Europe who supplement their limited knowledge of English with words from their own native tongues. On the 17th...

Fringe Season 5 Preview Trailer!

Fringe Season 5 Preview Trailer!

By the looks of it the creative staff is trying to let the show go out with a bang, I am still coming to terms with not seeing Anna Torv on TV. Fringe Season 5, starring Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Noble, Jasika Nicole, Blair Brown, and Lance Reddick, premieres Friday, September 28 at 9/8c on Fox.

Neuromancer movie may star Mark Wahlberg and Liam Neeson!

Neuromancer movie may star Mark Wahlberg and Liam Neeson!

A Neuromancer movie has been in the making almost since 1989, after a few years of Hayden Christensen and Joseph Kahn we got word that Vincenzo Natalie (Cube, Cypher) is attached to the project. That was a major relief to fans of Neuromancer as it was believed he may handle the subject appropriately. The last thing fans want is for this movie to get a PG-13 rating, they want an R movie and nothing less. Despite Natalie’s involvement things quickly grew quiet again, funding seemed to be the major problem. At last it was rumored he wouldn’t even direct but just produce the...

Fringe ‘The End of all Things’ Preview!

Fringe ‘The End of all Things’ Preview!

So far season 4 of Fringe hasn’t been all that captivating. It has been OK in a time when just being OK isn’t really good enough. Last weeks ratings of Fringe once again dipped under the three million mark with a viewer rating of 2.99 million. This weeks episode of Fringe is entitled ‘The end of all things’ and is focused on the mythology. In some respects I am becoming rather tired with the mythology, it isn’t as captivating as it once was, the mystery is kind of gone. Well, lets give this episode at least the benefit of the doubt. Here...

Fringe ‘A Better Human Being’ review!

Fringe ‘A Better Human Being’ review!

‘A Better Human Being’ is a very character driven episode of Fringe, after a season where this kind of story telling alternated with action-scenes it is pleasant to finally see progression in the characters. The relationship between Olivia and Peter is the main driving force behind the character development but it certainly also affects Walter Bishop, his character is a lot more focused in this episode and even chastises Peter for what he believes to be a bad influence on Olivia. There is of course and episode specific story arc, this week it is a Doctor Franks who has experimented with...

Fringe ‘Welcome to Westfield’ review!

Fringe ‘Welcome to Westfield’ review!

Like many Fringe episodes, this one is difficult to review. The premise of the episode is a mystery in the spirit of those found on The X-files that needs to be solved but the episode becomes less interesting when the mystery disappears and instead a familiar conclusion takes its place. As for the story… ‘Welcome to Westfield’ starts of with a dream, one in which Olivia and Peter are making love and whisper to each other that they love each other. The surprise comes when the viewer discovers that this is not Peters dream from a life before the time shift but is the Olivia’s dream. It is an allusion to the fact that...

Fringe’s Future + Anna Torv set photos!

Fringe’s Future + Anna Torv set photos!

In an interview with website givememyremote.com executive producer Jeff Pinkner discusses tonight’s episode ‘Welcome to Westfield’, the love triangle between Olivia, Peter and Lincoln and the future of the series. According to Pinkner tonight’s episode is most definitely not a ‘bottle show’ and fans will really like it (well that alright then). As far as the love triangle goes Pinker admits that this Olivia is not the same Olivia from before the time shift and as for any relation between Peter and Olivia he said ‘there are bumps in the road’. As for the future of the show Pinker says it has a...
