Terra Nova – Within review!

Terra Nova – Within review!

This weeks episode of Terra Nova is called ‘Within’ and is the last stopover until the two-part finale scheduled for next week (see preview of Occupation/Resistance). As such ‘Within’ is intended to lay the ground work for events that will unfold during the finale. Though it has a number of revelations of itself I can’t but help feeling that the writers of this episode were holding back, in some places the show feels a little slow. As for the story… Jim and Taylor are laying the finishing touches to securing the portal for the arrival of the 11th pilgrimage. We hadn’t seen the portal itself...

New Battleship Trailer!

New Battleship Trailer!

For may 18th of 2012 the movie Battleship is scheduled to be released. Though it certainly has been announced  a while ago, so far I  felt this franchise was a joke. Hollywood bought up the names of board games and tries to turn them into light-hearted action flicks. nonetheless Peter Berg is attached to direct and has made movies such as Virtuality and Hancock, and yes they weren’t great either. The premise of this movie is ‘Let’s copy Transformers’ and that’s it. Until this movie comes out and scores above average in quality you will never hear anything ever again on this website about this movie. Here is the...

Here are the details of the 2012 line up of Star Trek novels from Simon & Schuster. In the Last few months we have hit a bit of dry spell when it came to releases and the synopsis of the upcoming novels seem to arouse anticipation. Please note the details of ‘The assassination game’, so far we have been kept in the dark about the latest entry into the Starfleet Academy series. Star Trek: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night Publication date: May 29, 2012 An all-new novel set in the universe of Star Trek: The Next Generation! In the wake of...

Why was Enterprise Canceled?

Why was Enterprise Canceled?

A few days ago Blastr.com hosted an interview with John Billingsley, who for years amused us with his character Dr Phlox on the last Star Trek show Enterprise. The show was sadly canceled after 4 seasons. In the interview the actor states that the bean counters killed of the show because they insisted on ever grander plots and action settings. He links this with viewers tuning out. Personally I agree with him on that issue, it was a problem that started with Voyager when it wanted to be hip. However, I do believe that season 3 and 4 of Enterprise...

Person of Interest – Get Carter review!

Person of Interest – Get Carter review!

This ninth episode of Person of interest is entitled ‘Get Carter’ and refers as a pun to both the Michael Cain movie and the fact that all the villains in this story are gunning for Detective Carter (Taraji Henson). Person of Interest meanwhile seems to continue its run of good ratings and such is almost guaranteed to get a second season, the only gripe I have with the series is that the sci-fi elements have almost completely disappeared. After the pilot and the second episode we have seen no background information on ‘The Machine’ and it is in fact rarely mentioned. I know that...

Warehouse 13 – The Greatest Gift review!

Warehouse 13 – The Greatest Gift review!

This episode of Warehouse 13 is a Christmas special, and as such it lampoons the series just a bit (which in its own rights is often frivolous). Often this can either be needlessly stupid or absolutely brilliant. This episode swings back and forth between the two. The episode begins with Pete and Myka having to retrieve Rudolph’s red nose which playing havoc to someone Christmas decorations. After they manage to do so Pete finds himself on Christmas watch in Warehouse 13, while fooling around he manages to get hit by a brush which erases his entire existence. After he casually...

Star Trek Typhon Pact returns in 2012.

Star Trek Typhon Pact returns in 2012.

After four novels and one ebook set in the cross-franchise universe we will get two more novels in 2012. The Typhon Pact is of course the series that contains the main cast from TNG, DS9 and Voyager. Each of these series has continued into the expanded universe in one form or the other and in many ways the Typhon Pact series was an effort to bring some order and continuity to the expanded universe. Now, the series will continue with two novels written by David R. George. Who is sadly also the author of the third wretched book in the Typhon...

Terra Nova – Occupation and Resistance preview!

Tonight we get no Terra Nova love, next week on the 12th we get the episode entitled ‘Within’ and the week after that the season finale on the 19th. The finale consists of two episode entitled ‘Occupation’ and ‘Resistance’ which will be aired back to back. Are we looking forward to it? You bet! Despite many initial flaws this show has started to grow on me, many problems remain but those are mainly related to pacing character development. Flaws that I am willing to overlook as the creative staff tries to get a handle on them. The show in the meanwhile...

Chris Pine gets to practice his ‘KHAAAaaan’!

Chris Pine gets to practice his ‘KHAAAaaan’!

After weeks of speculation the rumors have been finally debunked, Star Trek 2 will get Khan Noonien Singh as its probable main antagonist. To many this comes as no surprise, as it is a smart choice for die hard trekkies and the villain has lots of appeal to non-regular Star Trek viewers. Khan is of course famous from Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan in which he manages to obtain the deadly weapon ‘Genesis’, As his first appearance in Star Trek was during the TOS episode Space Seed there is no mention of whether the deadly genesis device will return. One twist...

1st Lockout Trailer!

It has been one of those days, during the weekend you travel the nets for search of news and come up nothing, and then on Monday… bang, you got three articles. Now we got the trailer for Lockout, a movie I have previously never heard of. Lockout is directed by James Mather and Stephen St. Leger, two people I have never heard of either. Lockout was also co-written by Luc Besson, and that sets of the chimes in my head. Luc besson is of course the famed directed of The Fifth Element, the 1997 classic. So what about Lockout. Well,...

Sisterhood of Dune First Chapter Online!

As has become a tradition with the novels of Briand Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson… here is the first chapter of their new novel ‘Sisterhood of dune’ which is the first book of a new trilogie. This new book series is set some time after the conclusion of the Butlerian Jihad and features the rise of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood. Download link => Sisterhood-Chap-1. Also, the above picture is I believe the final version of the cover art. The release date for the novel has been confirmed as january 3rd next year for the US and late january for the UK. I won’t...

Person of Interest – Get Carter preview!

Next Thursday Person of Interest will be back after a short hiatus. Before the hiatus the series arch criminal Elias was introduced. That left one loose string, namely detective Carter’s rather sidelined appearance on this show. Ever since the series premier we have had to see her show up at the crimes Reese solved hours after he has left. So far she is also under misguided opinion that his deeds are are not altruistic. This weeks episode is entitled ‘Get Carter’ and as plot device features detective Carter’s name showing up on Fich’s machine. Here is the full press relase… WHEN...

Warehouse 13 – The Greatest Gift – Preview!

Warehouse 13’s seasonal hiatus is about to be interrupted by a standalone episode brought to you by the Syfy Channel The Greatest Gift is an not an ordinary episode in the sense that it continues whatever story arc Warehouse 13 is developing under now. It is a standalone holiday special intended to entertain fans through the Christmas period. As often with holiday specials they are somewhat more humorous and even spoof the show itself. So what do we know about this episode? Here is a snippet from the press release… In Warehouse 13’s “The Greatest Gift,” Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock)...

Terra Nova – Within – Preview! **Update**

Slowly as Terra Nova progresses towards its season finale does the tension in its plot increase, and a good thing too because too many episodes early on in the show were too predictable. I am not certain how many episodes of Terra Nova are left, officially ‘Within’ is its eleventh episode, but if you count the pilot as one then its the tenth episode. Regardless, ‘Within’ is clearly intended to set the stage for the season finale story arc and as such can make or break this series. Terra Nova at this moment hovers above the 7 million mark when...
