Haven Banner Syfy

Haven Season 4 Comic-Con Trailer!

As could be expected, Syfy took the opportunity to promote their flagship fantasy thriller Haven at this years Comic-Con. The lengthy trailer below at first just shows scenes that led up to the third season finale but eventually we get to see some new footage as well. What is clear is that our beloved group of characters are essentially split up. The half that stayed  behind will be joined by Colin Ferguson (Eureka) while those that went into the barn (Audrey and Duke et al.) are sent to an alternative world. That is, if I interpreted the trailer the right way. Several things caught my eye. Haven...

Asa Butterfield as Ender Wiggin - Ender's Game

Ender’s Game Comic-con preview!

Well as you may have read Comic-con 2013 is in full swing. People attending have already been indulged with the pilot of Almost Human starring Karl Urban and hints of an upcoming Firefly video game. Of course one of the major Science-fiction movies of the year is to be released in November. Ender’s Game stars Harrison Ford and Asa Butterfield and is directed by Gavin Hood. The movie is of course based on the novel by Orson Scott Card. He was a noted absentee at Comic-con because the studio fear that will bring scrutiny on his anti-homosexual views. Now, at Comic-Con the...

Piper Perabo as Annie Walker - Covert Affairs season 4 Vamos

Covert Affairs season 4 premiere ‘Vamos’ Review!

Going Covert When it comes to sci-fi TV-shows we have hit the summer dry-spell. Only Continuum is on and I don’t care much for either Falling Skies or Under The Dome. As some reader may know I sometimes review other TV-shows as well. I have done Haven and Elementary. The latter mostly because I am a big Sherlock (Holmes) fan and I really dig Lucy Liu. I am also a big fan of the spy-craft genre and Covert Affairs is more than decent enough in my opinion to warrant attention. For those who are not familiar with the show, it follows...

Travis using his CMR - Continuum Second Wave

Continuum S2Ep10 ‘Second Wave’ Review!

Second Wave After this weeks 10th episode of Continuum’s second season there will only be 3 more left until the season ends. So far the season has been pretty much a roller-coaster ride when it comes to plot development and quality. Luckily this weeks episode seems to set the stage for the seasons inevitable conclusion and it does this well. Kiera (Rachel Nichols) manages to capture Garza (Luvia Petersen) with Alec’s new Arc program that pretty much sucks in all real-time data of Vancouver. After Kiera’s run-in with Julian in the previous episode she is more than ever motivated to put a stop...

Alice Eve wearing bra and panties (lingerie) in Star Trek Into Darkness

Star Trek Into Darkness Blu-ray out September 10th

Star Trek Into Darkness may have been a mixed bag but it is definitely a movie worth a second and third viewing just to understand it properly. For those not wanting to go a to an empty cinema there will soon be the possibility of owning a copy of the movie on DVD or Blu-ray complete with a whole host of extra’s. The release has been scheduled for September 10th for a tentative price of 19.99. Which I believe will just be for the bare-bones version (do I am hoping is for the extra’s as well). However, before you can get your...

Defiance - Stahma (Jaime Murray) - the poison is on the flask

Defiance season finale ‘Everything is Broken’ review

The first season finale of Defiance is entitled ‘Everything is Broken’ and that is a understatement. Plenty of characters are killed off and almost everybody’s world is turned over. Some people might hate the episode, but I think most will love it. It’s a show that has only slowly begun developing a pair of balls. The plot Nolan and Tommy continue their search for Irisa, who has disappeared. At the voting polls for the election Kenya suggests to Datak that Stahma has been disloyal to him, and Datak threatens his wife when he realizes its true. Earth Republic storms into Doctor Yewll’s clinic....

Kate Kelton as Jordan McKee - Haven - Thanks for the Memories

Haven season 4 promo released

Haven Last year I tucked into the third season of Haven and found the show a lot better than expected. I immediately watched the first two seasons as well and agreed with every fan that the third season was an incredible improvement. There were still some caveats though. The creative staff couldn’t keep up with the quality in the second half of the season, mostly due to budget issues would be my guess. Women The show also had a bit of a problem with its female characters. Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) is a fine character but the number of secondary female characters is at...

Old Julian Randol - Richard Harmon - Continuum

Continuum S2E9 ‘Seconds’ Review!

Mere seconds to boredom… For those who have kept up with reading Continuum episode reviews know that I think season 2 has been a let down. Sure some episodes were great but the series suffers with its poor drama and plot twists that are all over the map. This weeks episode entitled ‘Seconds’ is pretty much at the bottom of the pile. It starts on the wrong footing by pretending that the excellent episode 8 never occurred. No reference is made about Garza abducting Alec or agent Gardner getting shot to death. Instead we are led to believe that the democratic people...

Tron Legacy Olivia Wilde

SciFiEmpire.net celebrates it’s 2nd anniversary!

SciFiEmpire Two years ago today I decided to make the big plunge and sign up for a website with a hosting company. For the most part I just wanted to vent my opinion on all matters science fiction, ranging from TV-shows, movies and novels that came about while my own writing career kind off passed by slowly. Strangely enough, writing a blog is easier and harder than I assumed it would be. The hardest part is keeping discipline to write something. I know, that kind of came out wrong. The easy part is all the technical stuff which I thought would...

Star Trek The Next Generation Season 5 Cover Blu-ray

Star Trek TNG season 5 Blu-ray cover revealed!

Star Trek TNG season 5 Blu-ray cover revealed! The season 4 Blu-ray disc set for TNG isn’t even out yet (scheduled for July 30th) yet CBS Home Entertainment is already promoting the shows 5th season! They have released the cover and a promotional trailer for what is probably the shows best season. Season 5 is of course famous for its Picard oriented episode ‘The Inner Light’ which I previously mistakenly attributed to season 4. My personal favorite is the two-part arc ‘Unification’ guest-starring Leonard Nimoy as Spock and Denise Crosby as Sela. Other notable episodes are ‘Darmok’, ‘Ensign Ro’ and ‘The Next...

Snowpiercer banner

Snowpiercer international trailer revealed!

Snowpiercer For a few months now I have read a few posts here and there on the internet about the movie Snowpiercer. My first reaction was that it sounded awfully similar to City of Ember starring Bill Murray. However, writers have been adamant that this movie is something special. For a start it is a Korean/American production that was filmed in the Czech Republic. The movie is by Korean director Bong Joon-ho and this will be his first English language movie. Though staying true to his roots only 80% of the movie is in English, the rest is in Korean....

Hailee Steinfeld in Ender's Game poster

Ender’s Game character posters!

Well, November 1st is rapidly approaching so the buzz for Ender’s Game is starting to heat up. The upcoming Comic-con is pretty much the event that the movie producers want to use to get people interested. And so they have brought up 5 character poster before hand. The are pretty cool, though I doubt we will see them plastered on billboards. PS, about Comic-con…. Guess who is not coming? You guessed it right! Its author Orson Scott Card. I guess his opinion on marriage would have distracted just a bit too much. Here is the synopsis for if you live in...

Stahma Tarr (Jaime Murray) - Defiance

Defiance ‘The Bride Wore black’ Review!

The first season of Defiance is almost over. After yesterday’s episode ‘The Bride Wore Black’ there are just two more to go. Fans won’t have to be afraid of a cancellation as the second season has already been confirmed. The question is whether another season is warranted? Well, I say it is…. Slowly, yes just slowly… Defiance is managing to build itself up into a show with the right amount of intrigue, action and humor. ‘The Bride Wore black’ This episode deals with the murky past of Defiance years before Nolan and Irisa set foot in the town. Alak Tarr finds the mummified...

Riddick Banner

New Riddick trailer online!

Riddick… We all know that coming September a new Riddick movie starring Vin Diesel will hit the cinema’s. I find myself surprised that I am actually looking forward to it. It’s a movie that has the potential of giving us some old school science fiction and action. After last years ‘Dredd‘ that sounds like a good mix. The fact that it will also star Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica and Longmire) is a bonus. As might be expected it is the time that the official trailer make the rounds on the internet for promotion. Riddick has been getting some good buzz...

Continuum renew for shortened 4th season! Luvia Petersen nude as Jasmine Garza

Continuum season 2 episode 8 ‘Second Listen’ Review!

Second Listen… So far everyone has been a bit underwhelmed by the second season. Sure there have been a number of ups (Travis decapitating organized crime bosses) but for the most part the plots feel disjointed and ill though out. This weeks episode ‘Second Listen’ is by far a more steady episode and sets the beginning for the season to conclude in a spectacular fashion. Plot outline… Kiera’s suspicions, confirmed finally; there were time jumpers before she and Liber8 came to the present. Now they’re popping up dead, and she must find out who’s behind it. Alec is kidnapped by Garza, acting...
