Composer James Horner dies

Sad news has been announced on the internet. Composer James Horner has died in a plane crash in California at the age of 61. At first there was some doubt who had died. He did own the plane but it wasn’t sure if he was on board. The only available news was that the single occupant, the pilot, had died in the crash. His assistant has however posted the following on Facebook. “We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart and unbelievable talent [who] died doing what he loved.”

I am shocked and saddened at the loss of this brilliant composer. His music has always helped me feel better when I am stressed or down. His work has always been emotional and invigorating. Of course he is famous for movies such as Titanic and Avatar. But I think other scores such as A Beautiful Mind, Enemy At The Gates and the 1992 movie Sneakers are so much better. I have all as part of my permanent collection of Soundtracks. More scores such as Apollo 13, Commando and 48 hrs  are also memorable.

At the time of his death he had been slated to compose for future sequels to James Cameron’s Avatar. It is impossible to say how much if any music has already been composed. Usually composing a score is one of the last jobs that is done before release. Avatar 2 and 3 are slated for 2017 and 2018 at the earliest respectively. I will leave you with a small selection of his best work. This was Award-winning composer James Horner dies in plane crash. I offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends.
