Idris Elba in Star Trek Beyond

First trailer for Star Trek Beyond blasts unto the internet!

First trailer for Star Trek Beyond blasts unto the internet! The first trailer for Star Trek Beyond was released unto the internet, and it’s nothing short of amazing! Paramount decided to release the trailer early even though it was supposed to show as a teaser in front of the Force Awakens. However, after some screen caps were leaked over the weekend and finally a low-resolution trailer auf Deutsch this morning the decision was made to release the trailer properly. I must say, it is amazing. The creative seems to have learned from the mistakes of Star Trek Into Darkness. The easy going humor...

Giles Deacon dresss The Force Awakens Gwendoline Christie

The Force Awakens update + Gwendoline’s Phasma dress!

The Force Awakens update It is only two weeks to go until the official release of Star Wars The Force Awakens on December 18. As a Star Wars fan I am starting to wonder what is going to be a bigger event: Christmas, the New Year or The Force Awakens. One thing is for sure, I am not going to finish that software project for a client I am have been working on. Late 2015 certainly is slipping into Spring 2016. So what news has there been for the Force Awakens? Director J.J. Abrams had stated that he has screened...

Kylo Ren torturing (played by Adam Driver). The Force Awakens trailer released

Disney releases The Force Awakens trailer, still no Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker!

The Force Awakens trailer released Disney has finally released the full length trailer for The Force Awakens, the upcoming Star Wars movie that is so hot it needs to be touched with special asbestos gloves with little jawa’s printed on it. The buzz surrounding J.J. Abrams movie is reaching epic heights, not seen since the release of Episode 1 (one elephant out of the room). That said, actually very little about the story is known. The official trailer released this evening, last night for me in Europe, filled in a few gaps. The trailer seems to suggest a very story and...

The Force Awakens Review

*** UPDATED *** The Force Awakens poster preview + opinion on Star Wars action figures

*** UPDATE *** French website Les Toiles Heroiques has just uploaded a fats number of Star Wars promotional which includes high resolution version. Below I have pasted the official movie poster, but do check out the website for more. Do check out the website for more… The Force Awakens poster preview Last Friday (the 4th) was the official day that all the Star Wars The Force Awakens merchandise went online. Disney and LucasFilm coined it Force Friday. I am not really big on action figures, most of the stuff seemed cheaply made. I will probably get an action figure as a...

Jonny Lee Miller as Dade Murphy - Crash Override Hackers 20th Anniversary Edition Blu-Ray Review

Hackers 20th Anniversary Edition Blu-Ray Review

One of my favorite movie subgenres is about hacking. Movies such as WarGames, Sneakers and The Matrix are probably the reason why I am doing a PhD in Computer Science (besides the toiling work of writing about Science Fiction). Another movie that should be on that list is the 1995 movie Hackers by director Iain Softley. A week ago this cult-movie has finally got its 1080p blu-ray treatment it long needed. Now neither Angelina Jolie nor Jonny Lee Miller look as pixelated or washed-out as they did before. The movie stars Jonny Lee Miller as hacker Dade Murphy A.K.A Crash Override and Angelina...

Upcoming Science-Fiction Movies of 2016

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is finally revealed Last weekend at Disney’s D23 con Star Wars fans got more news then they were expecting. A few days before director J.J. Abrams had said there would be no trailer or behind the scenes footage of The Force Awakens. I wasn’t expecting any to begin with. Instead Disney focused on all matters Star Wars besides the upcoming episode 7 (slated for December 18 if you haven’t heard). The most prominent focus of attention was the first the first of the Anthology Star Wars movies – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The...

Ant-Man Review Banner

Ant-Man Review – I don’t feel the excitement from Iron Man or Captain America!

Ant-Man Review Movies set in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU) are for me an acquired taste. I found the first Iron Man a bit of an odd duck when I first saw it. I have since come to appreciate most of the main characters of the MCU. Tony Stark’s banter with Pepper Potts, Thor’s with Jane Foster, Captain Rogers v. everybody else and of course Coulson and company. I was not looking forward to Ant-Man. I never heard of the comic or the character and just like Guardians of the Galaxy I was suspicious as to where the Ant-Man franchise would fit into the larger MCU....

Luc Besson to direct Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Luc Besson returns to Sci-Fi with Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets After an absence of 18 years French director Luc Besson returns to the Science Fiction genre. Not since The Fifth Element from 1997 has he directed a hard-core SF movie in a move fans hope will return him to the spotlight. The movie, slated for July 2017, will not be a sequel to Le Cinquième Élément, instead it will be based on the bestselling French comic book series that launched in 1967 produced by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézieres’. It is entitled Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. It concerns two spies who work for mankind solving...

Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor in Terminator Genisys

Terminator Genisys Review – A decent start ends in near disaster!

Terminator Genisys Terminator Genisyss is an odd movie. I was so NOT looking forward to it. With Jurassic World you knew it would never be as good as the original, but I still had high hopes. Yet that franchise has seen it fare share of failed sequels. Terminator is different. After an excellent T1 and T2 another two sequels were produced that totally disregarded the originals cinematography and action style. Instead they were two popcorn flicks when they didn’t need to be. I think fans are right to be skeptical about the future of the franchise. As my expectations for this movie were extremely low I...

Mr. Holmes movie starring Ian McKellen

Mr. Holmes movie preview starring Sir Ian McKellen

Mr. Holmes movie preview This summer another Sherlock Holmes movie is scheduled for release. It doesn’t feature Robert Downey Jr. or Benedict Cumberbatch or Jonny Lee Miller. Instead it stars Sir Ian McKellen as an aging Sherlock who desperately tries to remember details of his last case which he failed to solve. Mr. Holmes is not really about the mystery of the case. It is a movie about characters and situations as they might occur in the late Victorian period and Sherlock’s attempt to make sense of them decades later. As the aging detective is slowly forgetting details his memories of events may not...

Fantastic Four 2015 cast poster

Fantastic Four Preview starring Kate Mara

Fantastic Four is back! One of the last big summer blockbusters this year will be Fantastic Four. The superhero movie, starring Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, Miles Teller and Micheal B. Jordan is based on the similarly named comic book series that started over 50 years ago. Normally I do not consider myself a big fan of the superhero genre. I enjoyed Spiderman starring Tobey Maguire but I ignored the reboot that came afterwards. Similarly I enjoyed Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy while I disliked the movies from the 80’s and 90’s. I prefer that my comic book movie has a decent amount of...

Award-winning composer James Horner dies in plane crash

Composer James Horner dies Sad news has been announced on the internet. Composer James Horner has died in a plane crash in California at the age of 61. At first there was some doubt who had died. He did own the plane but it wasn’t sure if he was on board. The only available news was that the single occupant, the pilot, had died in the crash. His assistant has however posted the following on Facebook. “We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart and unbelievable talent [who] died doing what he loved.” I am shocked and saddened at...

Owen and Claire find the destroyed gyrosphere - Jurassic World Review

Read my Jurassic World Review with Premiere Pictures

Jurassic World Review Jurassic World is a difficult movie to judge. It is a lot better than The Lost World or Jurassic Park 3. Especially compared to The Lost World (which I love to hate) it manages to succeed as a worthy sequel to Steven Spielberg’s original 1993 movie Jurassic Park. Sadly, that is where most of the good news ends. Jurassic World is an OK movie, but not a very good one. Whereas Jurassic Park had strong characters with very clear motivations they are mostly lacking from Jurassic World. The movie centers on park operations manager Claire Dearing (Bryce...

Bring Him Home - The Martian

First trailer of The Martian with Matt Damon Released

First trailer to Ridley Scott’s The Martian Slowly the hype around Ridley Scott’s adaptation of The Martian is building. The Martian can be summarized as Gravity set on Mars, but that would be selling it short. Today, 20th Century Fox released a full 3 minute trailer of the movie which is scheduled for release on November 25th. The trailer sets up the story with a voice over from Matt Damon as stranded astronaut Mark Watney. Mark needs to survive on Mars after he has been left for dead and stranded. NASA quickly finds out he is indeed alive and mount a desperate...
