A Happy 2017 from SciFiEmpire.net

A Happy 2017 from SciFiEmpire.net, your website for all Sci-Fi news

A Happy 2017 from SciFiEmpire.net 2016 has come and gone. For many it outstayed its welcome. Problems such as Brexit and the election of Donald Trump has certainly made me apprehensive about the future. Sadly we also lost far too many celebrities: Carrie Fisher, her mother Debbie Reynolds and actor Alan Rickman to name just a few. On the last day of the year we also lost William Christopher, who played father Mulcahy on M.A.S.H for over a decade. All this makes me resolute in my attempt to make 2017 a better year. But I will talk about my new year’s resolution...

The end for SciFiEmpire.net - So long and farewell!

The end for SciFiEmpire.net – So long and farewell!

The end for SciFiEmpire.net – So long and farewell! Readers of SciFiEmpire.net may have noticed I have been absent from posting for a few weeks. I had a lot of work to do and there are some big changes coming in my life. After some hesitation I decided the best decision was to stop posting on SciFiEmpire.net. Effectively that means the end of this blog. If anyone wants to continue the torch feel free to contact me. The decision to stop was not easy. Especially today. I was planning to post a review on the last Person Of Interest episode of...

Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon in Inferno Teaser

Inferno Teaser proves Robert Langdon still got it

Inferno Teaser Columbia Pictures has released the official Inferno Teaser. Fans of Dan Brown’s Inferno have been speculating when they might get a first glimpse of the movie adaptation. No teaser was attached with Captain America Civil War. On Sunday a short 15 seconds teaser was announced to herald the release of the full teaser today. Inferno the novel was released back in 2013 (my review is here) and after its success plans to make a film adaptation moved quickly into high-gear. The movie is yet again directed by Ron Howard, father of Bryce Dallas Howard. Tom Hanks yet again plays protagonist...

Captain America Civil War Review! Marvel rises from the ashes of Ultron

Captain America Civil War Review! Finally, a new Captain America movie has been released. This time it was directed by the Russo brothers. Like The Avengers movie Captain America does not just focus on its titular character. Instead just like The Avengers, the story follows an ensemble of super heroes. As Marvel’s Cinematic Universe continues the number of movie characters is starting to become too large. Age Of Ultron was hampered by thus, but Captain America Civil War manages the issue handsomely. I was ready to dislike Civil War as yet another special effects summer popcorn movie. Age Of Ultron left me cold, not in the...

Blade Runner 2 release moved forward to October 2017

Blade Runner 2 release moved forward to October 2017

Blade Runner 2 release moved forward to October 2017 A few weeks ago I reported that Blade Runner 2 received a (controversial) release date, January 2018. The news came on the heels of the success of Dead Pool. Fans and industry insiders speculated that the studio was not worried about a off-season release. Perhaps they were signaling Blade Runner 2 was not meant to receive a wide release. Today, in total contradiction of that reasoning, and with joy, I can announce Blade Runner 2 has received yet another release date. The movie has not been delayed, instead it has been brought forward 3...

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. DC Extended Universe has finally arrived!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice The title may be a bit misleading. Officially the DC Extended Universe started in 2013 with Man of Steel. The DC Extended Universe is meant to be to the DC Comics what Marvel’s Cinematic Universe is to, well, Marvel Comics. So far things have gotten off to a rocky start. Man of Steel received only mixed reviews, certainly not the critical acclaim that Iron Man brought to Marvel. At the same time DC Comics couldn’t start the series with Batman, its other main comic book hero, as Batman has only just ended with its movie...

Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg in Indiana Jones 5

Indiana Jones 5 – Can Harrison Ford truly return?

Indiana Jones 5 A few days ago Disney made the bombshell announcement that a new Indiana Jones movie would released in 2019. The movie, a sequel to the original trilogy and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, will again be directed by Steven Spielberg and will also feature Harrison Ford in the titular role. The first response to the news was mostly skeptical. Harrison Ford is 73 right now and will either be 76 or 77 when the movie is released. As the role requires a great deal of physical activity fans have become justifiably worried. After the first dust had settled on the...

Code 8 robot police officers

Stephen Amell reveals first trailer for Code 8

Code 8 Arrow star Stephen Amell has revealed he has been working on an upcoming sci-fi movie titled Code 8. The announcement was made on the actors Facebook page, which also showed the first trailer for the movie. During the production he also worked with his cousin Robbie Amell. Robbie recently played agent Miller on the X-Files. Miller was one-half of the Scully and Mulder look alike team from the FBI. It is not certain in what capacity either Amell worked on the movie. ComicBook.com seems to think Stephen is working as a producer. Code 8 is directed by Jeff Chan (Call of Duty:...

Luvia Petersen on the set of Moonshot

Moonshot Preview: Sci-Fi short with Luvia Petersen

Moonshot Preview Those who feel the pain of the cancellation of Continuum will be eager to know one of its principal casts, Luvia Petersen, is set to act in two productions this year. One of the those of the short film Moonshot by director Matthew Lucas. The short film is described as a sci-fi retro movie, a movie set in a near future as it might have been imagined in the 1980’s. The title card certainly betrays its inspiration from the videogame Far Cry Blood Dragon, in its own right a superb homage to the 80s. As a fan of the time period (build year...

Captain Phasma (Christie) in chrome armour

Gwendoline Christie confirms Captain Phasma to return for Episode 8

Captain Phasma to return Today actress Gwendoline Christie confirmed she will reprising her role as Captain Phasma for Episode 8. Just before The Force Awakens producer Kathleen Kennedy already hinted at the return of the character but now it has been confirmed. Captain Phasma quickly became a fan favorite in her chrome armor storm trooper outfit acting as an enforcer for The first Order. With the news of the return of Gwendoline Christie it has been de facto confirmed that Captain Phasma did not die on Starkiller Base and somehow managed to escape from the trash compactor. The trash compactor is of course where Han...

Mary Elizabeth Winstead in 10 Cloverfield Lane

10 Cloverfield Lane Trailer online for March 11 release

10 Cloverfield Lane Cloverfield was the sleeper hit of 2008. I remember the release of the trailer well. At first I thought I was watching a some drama movie involving 30-somethings at a frat party. Yet, it did have that found-footage feel which left be baffled. Until Godzilla type monster roared in the background. Cloverfield wasn’t a movie I considered should need a sequel, but after years of speculation a sequel has been announced entitled 10 Cloverfield Lane. The sequel is also produced by J.J. Abrams but this time the director is Dan Trachtenberg, a director with a number of small projects...

Bryce Dallas Howard at Golden Globes Awards 2016

Golden Globes Award 2016 – which were the best actresses on the red carpet?

Golden Globes Award 2016 Along with all the reviews of movies and shows comes the glamour. Few events are more glamorous than the yearly Golden Globes Award. This years event was hosted on Sunday and of course included the red carpet event whereby every actress who is anybody tries to outshine everybody else by wearing the most beautiful or risqué dress permissible. In fact, plenty of not permissible fashion have become permissible by demonstrating it on the red carpet. This years focus may have been more on movies rather than TV productions. Actresses such as Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett were heavily...

Rogue One A Star Wars Story banner high resolution

More Rogue One rumors hit the internet!

Rogue One: Just a Rumor Just when you though the Star Wars craze was over, for now, it starts again. About a week ago I wrote a small preview of Rogue One, the standalone Star Wars movie starring Felicity Jones. Director Gareth Edwards already gave his opinion of what the movie is all about. “It’s the reality of war. Good guys are bad. Bad guys are good. It’s complicated, layered; a very rich scenario in which to set a movie.” Most of that was already hinted at when Disney announced the movie would be set just before A New Hope....
