Sleepy Hollow Season 2 Finale Review. Benjamin Franklin decapitated

Sleepy Hollow Season 2 Finale Review

The second season of Sleepy Hollow is finally over. It was a bot of a mixed bag. There was a lot of good, and a lot of bad. The bad were mostly the apocalyptic storylines that were recycled over and over again. The good usually revolved around Ichabod finding his way in the modern world, but the addition of Hawley and the extra screen-time given to Jenny were also welcome. As the series may not be renewed due to low ratings this last episode, Tempus Fugit, may also be considered a series finale. Luckily it works well for both, but I hope this...

The Walking Dead S5Ep11 The Distance Review. Rick hears children laughing

The Walking Dead S5Ep11 The Distance Review

Last week’s episode of TWD was too slow for my taste. I was hoping for more action with The Distance. I was only partly rewarded as the survivors have to deal with some walkers but mostly attempt to figure out whether it is Aaron is telling the truth about the Alexandria Safe-Zone. The Walking Dead S5Ep11 The Distance Review Picking up where the previous episode left off, Maggie and Sasha return to the barn and introduce a stranger, Aaron, to Rick and the group. Aaron tells them that he is part of a larger community surrounded by reinforced steel walls that...

Agent Carter S1Ep7 SNAFU Review. Hayley Atwell as agent Carter

Agent Carter S1Ep7 SNAFU Review

This weeks episode of Agent Carter, SNAFU, is the seventh of eight episode of the first season. I am sad to see the first season end so quickly but a quick pace of the show does have its appeal. In SNAFU both Carter (Hayley Atwell) and Jarvis are forced to take a back seat to the action after both have been arrested. Instead the episode concentrates on Thompson, Sousa and Dooley as they try to build a case against Carter. Their instincts lead them away from her into Leviathan’s deadly path which will have severe consequences for one of them. Agent Carter...

The Walking Dead S5Ep10 Them Review. Carol and Daryl share a moment

The Walking Dead S5Ep10 Them Review

The fifth season of The Walking Dead is moving forward at a fast pace. After Beth died in Atlanta and Tyreese died in the previous episode the cast continues to change. TWD is unforgiving. It took a while to warm up to Beth and Tyreese but their deaths were certainly heartbreaking. The series needs to find a new dynamic if it doesn’t want to be remembered for killing off its main cats one by one. Doing so is made difficult by the comic books which still act as a rough guideline for the TV-series. Though by my reckoning Carol should have...

Amanda Tapping directing Dark Matter. Syfy Dark Matter Preview

Syfy Dark Matter Preview

This summer Syfy Channel continues with its efforts of producing high-concept science fiction with the release of Dark Matter. Syfy Dark Matter Preview At this moment little is known about Dark Matter except for its premise. According to producer Joseph Mallozzi (Stargate) ‘The series follows the crew of a spaceship who awake from stasis with no clue where they are’. The 13 one-hour episodes are based on the graphic novel Dark Matter by Mallozzi and Mullie, published by Dark Horse Comics. At first this sounds like the third season if Stargate Universe. The comparison does not end there. Stargate Atlantis alumni Torri Higginson will play Cmdr....

Game Of Thrones Season 5 Preview. Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister

Game Of Thrones Season 5 Preview

On April 12th, in just over two months time, Game Of Thrones will return for its fifth season. The show, along with the novels written by George R.R. Martin, is slowly drawing to its conclusion. Though we still have two more novels to go and at least three more seasons until its finished. I have been looking forward to season 5 with more trepidation than I did with previous seasons. The violence and nudity have for me become less important than the fate of the beloved and sometimes hated characters. Here on SciFiEmpire I pretty much write about anything, it doesn’t...

Sith lord unveils light saber - Star Wars VII Lightsaber

J.J. Abrams talks about Star Wars VII Lightsaber

One of the most talked about scenes from the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer was the new Sith ligthsaber. I dare say thanks to SciFiEmpire.net everybody got a high-resolution picture to pick their bone with. The controversy about the ligthsaber has hardly abated since the release of the trailer. Most think it is too gimmicky. After Episode 1 and 2 introduced new types of sabers it is hard to get around that argument. Many hope Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens will be an effort to move the franchise back to its roots. The question is why J.J. Abrams would...

Agent Carter The Iron Ceiling Review. Leviathan girls turned into assassins

Agent Carter S1Ep5 The Iron Ceiling Review

After last weeks episode of Agent Carter, The Blitzkrieg Button, the show turned a corner. The mystery of the battle of Finow and the darker side of the war was brought forward. The silliness that occurred during the first few episodes lessened. Also more effort was placed on fleshing out secondary characters such as Roger Dooley (played by Shea Whigham) and Jack Thompson (played by Chad Michael Murray). Thompson is hard to like, but Dooley shows that he is not aloof of Peggy’s accomplishments or the possibility that Howard Stark is innocent. After this weeks episode of Agent Carter, The Iron Ceiling, there are...

The Blacklist season 2 James Spader promo

The Blacklist S2Ep9 Luther Braxton Review

The Blacklist The Blacklist is finally back after its mid-season hiatus. Fresh after the death of Alan Fitch (played by Alan Alda) Raymond Reddington intends to find the Fulcrum. His quest is a tacit acknowledgement that he never had it in the first. For Raymond (James Spader) things become complicated when notorious criminal Luther Braxton allows himself to be captured and send to a CIA blacksite located on an oil rig. There he hopes to gain access to the security network of the USA intelligence community and access the Fulcrum. As Raymond does not want anyone to know he doesn’t have the...

Agent Carter Review. Mr. Mink

Agent Carter Review – S1Ep4 The Blitzkrieg Button

Agent Carter is finally back after a two weeks absence with episode ‘The Blitzkrieg Button’. Hayley Atwell continues to shine as Peggy Carter. But slowly I am beginning to wonder what direction Agent Carter is taking. Allow me to argue what I think this show should do differently in this Agent Carter Review. Agent Carter Review – S1Ep4 The Blitzkrieg Button ‘The Blitzkrieg Button’ continues where ‘Time and Tide’ left off. SSR is still looking for Howard Stark and they have no idea that Peggy is helping him. Now that SSR has found a large cache of the weapons stolen...

Helix S2Ep2 Reunion Review. Scary infected man

Helix S2Ep2 Reunion Review

Helix S2Ep2 Reunion Review Helix continues to find more solid ground during its second season. With this weeks episode Reunion the pace is set for the season. Compared to the beginning of season 1 Helix concentrates less on dangerous pathogens. Though there is one that will make your vomit solid. Instead, it frames the mystery against a backdrop of the a cult on an island, the Ilaria Corporation and what Alan did to find Julia. To some of those questions we are given answers. True to his style, Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica and Outlander) raises far more questions and at times...

Star Trek TNG Season 7 Blu-ray Review. Picard and Ro Laren together

Star Trek TNG Season 7 Blu-ray Review

Star Trek TNG Season 7 Blu-ray Review Welcome to the review of Star Trek The Next Generation Season 7. It has been a long journey since I reviewed season 1 over two years ago, but we have finally arrived. Season 7 is difficult to review. There is so much to like, but there are some bad apples as well. It was a show that was trying to change itself one last time before the curtain call that was ‘All good things’. For us the journey is not over, Enterprise has already arrived on Blu-ray but there is still Deep Space 9 and...

Person Of Interest Season 5 cancelled

Person of Interest S4Ep11 If-Then-Else Review

Person of Interest S4Ep11 If-Then-Else Review Person of Interest not only knows how to blow away half the cast but also the audience in this weeks spectacular episode. I had seen the preview trailer and I knew Denise The had written the episode. Yet I was still stunned how well it was crafted. The title is an allusion to the most basic method of programming run-time choices. This episode depicted events from the viewpoint of The Machine as it desperately tries to help Reese, Finch, Fusco, Root and Shaw from being killed by Greer and Samaritan after they are ambushed....

Agent Carter Series Premiere Review - Hayley Atwell shows some cleavage

Agent Carter Series Premiere Review

Agent Carter Series Premiere Review After the so-so first season of Agent of Shield anyone would think that ABC and Marvel got balls for trying to launch another starring Peggy Carter. Peggy is played by Hayley Atwell as the title character. SHIELD may have improved in quality but a show centered on one character, remembered mostly from the first Captain America movie sounds too much like trying to come up with filler material. Yet, Agent Carter was hotly anticipated from the moment it was announced (with some reservations). Yesterday the first two episodes aired and the first thing I noticed was that the show...

Brandon P. Bell as Executive Officer Oren Gault - Syfy Ascension Night One Review

Syfy Ascension Night One Review

Ever since the first announcements of Ascension I was more than just intrigued. Perhaps it was the obviously flawed premise of a 1960’s space ship launched to another planet that got me to ask. ‘How the hell do they think to get away with that’. When after the initial announcement several executives of Syfy put the future of their network on the success of this show I started to pay attention. Syfy channel has a reputation of cancelling their core programming in favor of wrestling, reality and ghost hunting shows that frankly made me wonder if the change from Sci-fi channel to just...

Star Trek DTI The Collectors Review novella cover

Star Trek DTI The Collectors Review

Star Trek DTI The Collectors Review Christopher L. Bennett is finally back with another Department of Temporal Investigations story. This time it is a novella instead of a novel like his previous two outings. I used to write regular updates and reviews of Star Trek novels, but frankly reading all the material would be a full-time job. That, along with the end of the Starfleet Academy series has meant I haven’t done a review in over a year. The Collectors isn’t the first novella I have reviewed set in the Star Trek universe. It is certainly better than Star Trek: The...
